I have decided to post photos of past travels in general and our eight year sailing adventure on SV Irie in particular for Wordless Wednesdays. I hope you enjoy them. Also, I can’t manage completely “wordless”, but I try my best at “almost wordless”. 🙂
Start of the trail
There is no photo challenge at the Daily Post this week, so I’m diving head first into the Acadia experience with a photo gallery of the Gorham Mountain Trail. If there is only one hike you can do in Acadia National Park, I highly recommend this one. The views are spectacular and get better with each step you take towards the top. It is a short, but moderate hike that involves climbing over rocks and boulders and that combines the right dose of exercise and beauty. Sturdy shoes are a must as is enough drinking water. Choose a clear day for the best views and save the side trip “Cadillac Cliffs Trail” for the way down, unless you want to walk a loop. This optional part of the hike is relatively strenuous, but quite impressive. Enjoy!

Lovely! It rained most of the time we were in Acadia so we only did one trail which was beech mountain.

We were fortunate that we could kind of plan and decide when to go based on the weather, which we did. We had some rain, but not too much and were lucky the forecast stuck. Where else did you venture out to when you were here, Anabel?

Apparently Waldron Bates was the first to utilize stone stairways and iron rung ladders in the trails to help hikers traverse cliffs, talus slopes (the sloped mass of rocks at the base of a cliff), and other steep areas. The Gorham Mountain Cadillac Cliffs Trail, which we did on the way down, is a good example of his work. I”m positive you would have loved this hike! You guys should visit Acadia one day. Maybe by boat. There were many protected anchorages and bays… But also many lobster traps, which would drive me nuts navigating a sailboat!!!

Right! This Acadia visit seems like a lifetime ago. It was pre-Zesty and pre-Maya! 🙂
